The Music & Entertainment Technology Lab, in partnership with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Specticast, will host five orchestra concert broadcast presentations on Drexel campus throughout the 2009-2010 performance season. These internet-based broadcasts are presented in HD in the Mitchell Auditorium and are free and open to the public.

The DrexelCast presentations are sponsored by the Westphal College of Media Arts and Design, the Penoni Honors College, and the College of Engineering.

BARTOK The Miraculous Mandarin

BRAHMS Piano Concerto No. 2

Bart�k set the European theater world on edge with the controversial The Miraculous Mandarin, a brilliantly-hued expressionist nightmare in which a Chinese magician visits a prostitute only to be stabbed by thieves and left to die. But in this ballet-pantomime, heard in its entirety here, the Mandarin cannot die until the young lady embraces him one last time. The music is as shocking today as it was at its scandalous 1926 Cologne premiere-after which it was banned. Maestro Dutoit has balanced Bart�k's modernist crackle with Brahms's symphonic Second Piano Concerto, a product of the composer's ripest maturity. Up for the challenge is pianist Yefim Bronfman, whose power and poetry have made him into one of the most sought-after artists of our time.

Sorry I didn't reply back sooner, but by the time I was able to stop back in the Honor's College they were already sold out.

These are the only three available:

Sheherazade and Other Tall Tales (Thursday, 7/23/09)
All Gershwin (Friday, 7/24/09)
Verdi and Rachmaninoff (Tuesday, 7/28/09)

I'm going to the first two of these...so if either of them fit into anyone's schedule, let me know and I'll get extra tickets.

I already got two tickets through the honors college for Herbie Hancock and Lang Lang. Also, I believe people in the honors college can get one other ticket for a non honors person for these events. But yeah I think this would be a great thing for a group of pi nu people to do together!!

For those of you in the Honors Colllege, below are the days that you can go to a performance at the Mann Center for free...no deposit required. Currently I've signed up for the All Gershwin and the Tchaikovsky with Fireworks performances. I think it'd be worthwhile if we could coordinate going to these performances together if possible. For those of you who aren't members of the Honors College, you probably still have a chance to buy tickets ($10 lawn seats). My thoughts are if we go as a group, people can bring food and drinks that we can have before and during the performances. Thoughts?

Since I'm basically running this for Habitat I'm going to have to be at that table if no one else is there. That being said I'm going to be pretty much every one of these events so if I see the person coming around and no one is at the pi nu table, I'll try to get over there. Also if you really need someone give me the date and i'll try to work something out.

We are technically signed up to represent just Pi Nu, but saying good things about the department would certainly be a good idea I requested that our table be next to the music department's, assuming that they have one this year.

Are we only representing Pi Nu or the music/theater department as a whole?
